Survivorship

Towards personalized survivorship care

About 30-40% of the growing group of cancer survivors experiences long-term or late effects of either the disease or its treatment. These effects, which can be physical, psychological, or social, impede their quality of life and cause huge societal costs. The Netherlands Cancer Institute is a leading institute in the field of cancer survivorship research and care.

It is our mission to increase our knowledge about general and individual risk factors for quality of life problems, and to implement these new insights into our everyday clinical practice. This should ultimately lead to personalized survivorship care integrated in cancer treatment itself.

What we investigate

Who is at risk of negative side effects of cancer (treatment)?

How can we ensure that patients experience fewer negative side effects of cancer (treatment)?

How can we ensure that patients and physicians benefit from new insights?
In the near future, quality of life outcomes will become increasingly important in cancer treatment and care, as important as progression-free survival.

Groundbreaking research on survivorship

In this video, researchers from the Netherlands Cancer Institute take you along in their quest for improving cancer survivors’ quality of life. Many cancer survivors experience long-term or late effects of either the disease or its treatment. It is our mission to increase our knowledge about general and individual risk factors for quality of life problems, and to implement these new insights into our everyday clinical practice.
