Daniël van der Meer wins VvE Publication Award for AYA research

During the yearly Dutch Epidemiological Conference - WEON2021 – epidemiological researcher Daniël van der Meer has been awarded the VvE (Netherlands Epidemiology Society) Publication Award for Junior Researchers 2021. The jury of the VvE Publication Award unanimously decided that his paper “Incidence, survival and mortality trends of cancers diagnosed in adolescents and young adults (15-39 years): A population-based study in The Netherlands 1990-2016” was the best. Daniël received his award digitally and online during the WEON.

His research shows that the incidence of cancer among AYAs has increased tremendously over the past thirty years. The survival rates after cancer have increased over these years and the mortality rates have decreased. The five-year relative survival for all cancer types among the AYA population is now over 80% but has remained relatively poor (< 60%) for certain cancer types. Find out more about his research here.
