Dutch Ministry of Health

Collaborating for a learning healthcare system

Progress in cancer care depends not only on scientific discovery, but also on how healthcare systems learn, adapt and apply new knowledge. Together with the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and other partners, the Netherlands Cancer Institute works towards a learning healthcare system in which innovation can be evaluated, implemented and improved in practice.

The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport plays an important role in supporting a substantial part of our research infrastructure. This support helps create the conditions in which science, technology and clinical practice can come together to accelerate progress for patients.

We also work together on challenges that are central to the future of cancer care, including:

  • Precision medicine
  • Cell-based therapies
  • New diagnostic tools, such as liquid biopsies, whole genome sequencing and, earlier, the microarray-based MammaPrint
