Gabe Sonke, medical oncologist at the NKI, explained:
“The NKI has a responsibility to work with the ministry, patients, hospitals, insurers, and partners like the Dutch Cancer Society to keep healthcare accessible and affordable. Where needed, we make proposals for improvements, including on high-cost medicines. At the same time, we research ways to make treatments smarter, less intensive, and more effective for patients.”
The minister also visited the department where patients receive cell therapy developed and produced at the NKI.
