With a background in clinical oncology, biology and data science, Joris leads an interdisciplinary team that studies how hardwired genetic changes and tumor-immune interactions result in membrane proteome dynamics. The team uses this to learn fundamental lessons about cellular interactions in cancer and design novel precision therapeutics. Central to these efforts are cancers with unique immunological properties, such as tumors that are completely invisible to CD8 T cells and yet show exceptional immunotherapy responses in the clinic. Joris is a recipient of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Award for most talented young investigator of the NKI and serves in the ESMO Precision Medicine Task Force since 2022.
