Wilbert Zwart appointed professor

As per June 1^st Wilbert Zwart has been appointed professor of Functional genomics in Oncology at the department of Biomedical Engineering of Eindhoven University of Technology. This appointment allows him to stimulate the development of new technologies in the Netherlands Cancer Institute.

Wilbert Zwart's research group focuses on hormonal function in cancer, especially breast cancer and prostate cancer. Hormonal therapy is commonly applied in these patients but not everyone responds to the treatment. With his research Zwart aims to identify biomarkers for therapy insensitivity, find new therapeutic targets, and understand tumors that are insensitive to hormones better.

One of the goals of the Netherlands Cancer Institute is to develop new technologies and apply them in research in an early stage. Technological innovation also is the great strength of Eindhoven University of Technology. Zwart: "My appointment as professor at this university allows us to combine our forces. Together we can develop new technologies and incorporate new knowledge in our research faster and more efficiently."
