DNA mutations work together in the development of cancer. But how?

In the DNA of patients with cancer, certain mutations occur together surprisingly often, whereas others are rarely seen together. Researchers from the Netherlands Cancer Institute University of California San Diego School of Medicine now demonstrated that patterns previously assigned to direct relationships between mutations within the cell can almost always be explained in other, indirect ways. This knowledge may well improve our understanding of cancer.
