Vivien van Veldhuizen

I have a background in artificial intelligence, having completed both my bachelor's and master's degrees in AI at the University of Amsterdam. Throughout my academic journey, I've developed an interest in geometric deep learning and latent representation learning, with a strong passion for fundamental and cutting-edge AI research. Now, I'm excited to apply my knowledge and skills to tackle the crucial challenges in cancer research as a PhD student at the AI for Oncology group. I am supervised by Eric Marcus (postdoc), Jonas Teuwen (group leader) and Ritse Mann (radiologist). Additionally I work closely with Katja Pinker-Domenig (radiologist) at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

As a PhD student, I am part of the aiEMBRACE project, which aims to revolutionize breast cancer care through the use of deep learning. In this project, we are working towards several key objectives, including predicting the benefits of breast MRI for women based on their mammograms, aiding in the interpretation of breast MRIs, personalizing treatment plans based on response predictions, and forecasting disease recurrence and long-term outcomes. Our aim is to transform breast cancer care by uniquely integrating AI throughout the entire patient journey - from risk assessment and diagnosis to treatment and surveillance.
