In June 2017, I became a PHD student in the group of Jos Jonkers as part of the PRECISION project, where we aim to get more insight in the progression of DCIS to prevent overtreatment. I specifically generated PDX models to characterize DCIS progression and find biomarkers. On top of this we created a biobank of invasive breast cancers spanning all subtypes. Starting 2024 I continued in the lab of Jos as a Postdoc to study the very early stages of tumor initiation in BRCA1 mutation carriers and how we can prevent tumor formation using systemic treatments instead of preventive surgeries. To study this we developed a new mouse model to follow the loss of heterozygosity of BRCA1 and mimic the situation in BRCA1 mutation carriers.
