Sara Oliveira

Postdoctoral fellow

Hugo Horlings Marleen Kok

Sara has a background in biomedical engineering (MSc) and a PhD in computational pathology, during which she focused on deep learning methods for whole-slide image diagnosis using few annotations and weak supervision, applied to breast, colorectal and cervical cancers.

With her doctoral project she discovered the fascinating world of computational pathology and the positive impact that research in this area can have on society. Thus, wanting to continue in the field, she joined NKI in January 2023 as a postdoctoral researcher in the Hugo Horlings and Marleen Kok groups, with the main goal of developing diagnostic medical imaging tools that can be used in clinical practice, to help clinicians and, indirectly, patients towards more precise and personalized cancer treatments.

Sara’s main research interests include computational pathology, medical image (WSI) analysis, computer vision, machine (deep) learning and translational research.
