Theo RuersIn 2025, I completed my Master’s in Technical Medicine at the University of Twente, specializing in Medical Imaging and Interventions. As a Technical Physician, I aim to bridge the gap between complex engineering and clinical practice. During my master’s, I especially gained strong interest in the development and implementation of AI within the surgical department.
Currently, as a PhD student in the Image-Guided Surgery group, I am researching real-time tumor detection for robot-assisted radical prostatectomies. My research focuses on reducing positive surgical margins to minimize the need for follow-up treatments and improve patient quality of life. I combine optical imaging techniques with AI models and structured implementation strategies, to effectively bring these techniques to the operating room.
