Bas van Steensel

Pia Mach

At the beginning of 2024, I joined the group of Bas van Steensel to investigate the relationship between DNA sequence, transcription factor binding and transcriptional output.

I initially studied Biochemistry at the university of Tübingen and then performed my PhD studies in the group of Luca Giorgetti at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel.  There, I used a live-cell imaging approach in mouse embryonic stem cells to study the dynamics of encounters of DNA sequences and how this is dependent on factors that regulate chromosome folding.  For my PhD, was part of the Horizon 2020 ITN ChromDesign.
