Gordon Watt

I started my work at NKI in 2009 and joined the Watt group in 2024. My research interest focusses on risk of cardiovascular disease and subsequent cancer following cancer treatment at young adult age and shift work related disease risk. I have experience in design and analysis of cohort, case-control and case-cohort studies. I have co-authored >170 papers and acted as co-promotor during the thesis defence of 16 PhD students.

I obtained a master’s degree in biomedical health sciences in 1996 (Radboud University Nijmegen) and a PhD in Medical sciences in 2005 (University of Groningen). From 1997 until 2008 I have worked for the Comprehensive Cancer Centre North (later North-east) as head of the (regional) cancer registry and head of the research department. I have remained involved with Comprehensive Cancer Centre Amsterdam and later Comprehensive Cancer Centre the Netherlands as a senior researcher until 2016.
