Melisa Castaneda Venegas

In August 2026, I joined the Gordie Watt Group at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) as a postdoctoral researcher. My research investigates how cancer treatment and immune-related factors influence the risk of subsequent breast cancer.

Work experience

·         2025–2026: Postdoctoral Researcher, Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), studying pain and mental health medication use using Dutch nationwide healthcare registries (LROI, SFK, CBS) in patients undergoing hip and knee arthroplasty.

·         2020–2025: PhD Researcher, University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), studying ways to optimize cervical cancer prevention and screening in the Netherlands using the Lifelines cohort and the Dutch Pathology Registry (PALGA).

·         2017–2020: MSc in Epidemiology and Young Researcher, University of Antioquia, Colombia, conducting research in the ESTAMPA and ASCUS-COL studies to improve cervical cancer prevention in low- and middle-income countries.
