PhD student

ma.witteveen@nki.nl Theo Ruers

I graduated with honors in 2020 at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam with a Master's degree in Biomedical Technology and Physics with specializations in medical physics and image processing. During my studies I completed a variety of internships at UMC as well as at NKI/AVL. During these internships I developed a passion for research that could directly contribute to the success of medical procedures for patients.

As a PhD student in the group of Theo Ruers, I have the opportunity to directly apply my knowledge in medical physics and image processing in a team of multidisciplinary experts to help improve the success of surgical operations. My current research is focused on the development of laparoscopic hyperspectral imaging for use in real time during surgery, which would allow for more precise distinction between tissue types.
