In 2020, I obtained my Medical Degree at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. The medical field is changing in a way that technological developments are being implemented more frequently. As a young medical doctor, I believe that it is important for medical professionals to stay up to date and to develop technological knowledge and skills. As a PhD student in Theo Ruers' group I have the opportunity to conduct research that involves both the surgical and the technological field and thus prepare myself to become a modern medical doctor.

My research focuses on the use of Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS) for the detection of positive surgical resection margins during robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomies. The aim is to detect the positive resection margins intraoperatively and thus provide the surgeon with real time information to avoid these positive surgical margins, avoiding the need for additional treatment after surgery.
