+31 20 512 1731 j.brunekreef@nki.nl Jan-Jakob SonkeAfter studying physics and mathematics at Utrecht University and ETH Zurich, I went on to pursue a PhD in theoretical physics at Radboud University Nijmegen. More specifically, I specialized in nonperturbative quantum gravity, a field that involves the use of both analytical and computational methods. Subsequently, I spent a short time as a junior researcher in the infectious diseases modeling group at UMC Utrecht's Julius Center.
Continuing my career at the NKI as a postdoctoral fellow, I will develop AI techniques with applications to medical imaging. I am currently working on 3D image segmentation using deep learning methods. Furthermore, I plan to put to use my background in mathematical physics to study more formal aspects of AI research, for instance in the context of geometrical deep learning.
