Elise van Bree

During my graduate research, I developed a keen interest in the involvement of the non-coding genome in gene regulation. While conducting my PhD studies, I discovered that structural variation within transposable (mobile) DNA elements may contribute to disease susceptibility by altering nearby gene expression.

With the aim to have my research be of direct importance to patients, I joined the lab of dr. Fijneman and the TGO group in June 2022 to continue studying structural variations and assess the functional consequences of large genomic alterations found in colorectal tumors.
