Carmen Rubio Alarcón

In July 2019 I joined the group of prof. dr. Gerrit Meijer under the supervision of dr. Remond Fijneman as a PhD student. During this project, we will try to find prognostic and predictive biomarkers in non-metastatic colorectal cancer, focusing on the study of cell-free circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA).

This research will be performed within the Prospective Dutch Colorectal Cancer (PLCRC) cohort, an observational cohort study in which all patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer in more than 50 participating hospitals in the Netherlands can be enrolled. My main interest is translational oncology, and trying to build bridges between fundamental research and clinics.

Work experience

Before joining the NKI, I obtained a Bachelor in "Biochemistry" (Universidad Autónoma of Madrid), followed by a master in "International Clinical Trials Management" (ESAME). After two years working as study coordinator of phase I oncology clinical trials (Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón), I moved to the Netherlands, where I obtained my Master of Science degree in "Cancer, stem cells and developmental biology" (Utrecht University) before starting my current PhD.
