Thesis defense Joppe Nieuwenhuis: A genetic peek into the cell

14-12-2018

The connection between an individual's genetic makeup (genotype) and an individual's observable traits (phenotype) is often unclear. Generating mutations in haploid human cells is a powerful method to uncover new links between genes and phenotypes. Haploid cells contain just one copy of its genes. Netherlands Cancer Institute researcher Joppe Nieuwenhuis applied a genetic screening system based on haploid cells to find the first tubulin detyrosinating enzymes, which people have tried to identify since four decades. On Monday December 17th he will defend his thesis. Goodluck Joppe!
