The group of Jelle Wesseling focuses on finding, validating and implementing pathological and molecular features of (precursors of) breast cancer to enable more accurate predictions regarding prognosis and treatment response.

As per July 1st Jelle Wesseling has been appointed professor of Pathology, in particular breast cancer pathology, at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC).
This knowledge will ultimately spare thousands of women needless, burdensome treatment for harmless breast cancer precursors and it will also ensure more effective treatment for every woman with breast cancer. Wesseling: "My appointment as a professor at the LUMC combines our forces in research and clinical practice on preventing overtreatment of women with harmless lesions and improve the treatment outcome for women confronted with breast cancer, preserving their quality of life as much as possible."
