Insights into the regulation of chromosome segregation from structural and mechanistic studies of the APC/C and kinetochore
David Barford

David Barford studied for his D.Phil in Louise Johnson’s group at Oxford University investigating the structural consequences of protein phosphorylation on the allosteric enzyme glycogen phosphorylase. In 1991, he moved to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, USA to establish an independent research programme on protein phosphatases. In 1994, he returned to the University of Oxford as a lecturer and fellow of Somerville College and in 1999 was appointed as the co-head of the Division of Structural Biology at the Institute of Cancer Research in London. He moved to the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge in 2013. There his group studies the mechanisms and regulation of chromosome segregation focusing on structural and mechanistic studies of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC/C) and the kinetochore.
