Postdoctoral researcher Health Technology Assessment in oncology

Your function within the department

Within the research group of Prof. Wim H. van Harten and Dr. VP Retèl, we search for a talented and ambitious individual to conduct HTA research in oncology, in a broad scala of projects regarding (very) early HTA of innovative technologies in cancer, to HTA in cancer survivorship (interventions).
Examples of (recent) projects are:

  1. PABLO (A randomized controlled trial of an internet-based tailored physical activity support program in breast and prostate cancer survivors)
  2. Clinical impact of dedicated MRI staging of ovarian cancer patients
  3. GERSOC (GERiatric Screening in the treatment of elderly patients with Ovarian Carcinoma)
  4. (Very) early HTA projects for translational research at the Oncode Institute (https://www.oncode.nl/)

Besides the ongoing projects, we are facilitating e.g. head room calculations for grant proposals and the accompanying textual proposals for newly developing, and stimulating HTAs according our research line in (early) Health Technology Assessment in the NKI-AVL.

Supervisors for the projects are Dr. Valesca Retèl and Prof. Dr. Wim van Harten, in collaboration with the various project specific PI's such as fundamental researchers and physicians from the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital. Inspiring international atmosphere Approximately 550 people work in the NKI research laboratory and many of the clinicians are involved in research. Work discussions, lectures and seminars are inspiring and a large number of non-Dutch post-docs, students and staff members contribute to the stimulating and international atmosphere of the Institute. The group of Wim van Harten is positioned within the department of Psychosocial and Epidemiological research (PSOE) and currently involves 1 senior postdoc, 1 senior scientist, 9 PhDs, a research assistant and a number of master students involved in health technology assessment/health economics and mathematic modelling.

Your profile

We are searching for a postdoctoral investigator with the following expertise and experience:

  • You have a PhD degree in Health Economics/Health Technology Assessment or epidemiology with experience in health economics
  • You are interested in applied decision modelling in the field of health care (connection with the clinic is very important!);
  • You have good verbal and written communication skills (English);
  • Experience with performing statistical analyses/modelling (Excel, SPSS, Stata or R)
  • Interest in Health care policy

Your career opportunities and terms of employment

Your temporary employment will be for a period of 2,5 (with possibility for extension to 3) years. The gross salary per month will be from € 3.215,- to € 3.917,- according to the standard postdoc scales and depends on previous experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
