Your function within the department
The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is an independent research institute located in Amsterdam. The Institute covers all major areas of molecular and cellular cancer biology, with special emphasis on immunology, cancer cell biology and translational research; increasingly health technology assessment (HTA) and health economic studies are performed in early stages of research that can lead to clinical innovations. The Netherlands Cancer Institute and the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital form an comprehensive cancer center, combining a research laboratory and a hospital under one roof in a single, independent organization This research is focused on improving cancer treatment through imaging and molecular diagnostics, new medicine, immunotherapy, improved operating techniques, more effective radiotherapy, and combinations of these, HTA, epidemiology and psychosocial research.
Postdoctoral researcher (32-36 hours/week)
“Health economics in precision oncology”.
Within the research group of Prof. Wim H. van Harten and Dr. VP Retèl, we search for a talented and ambitious individual to conduct health economic research in oncology, in a broad scala of projects regarding (very) early Health technology Assessment (HTA) of innovative technologies in precision oncology. Our challenge is to adjust our HTA models into the environment of precision oncology. This means e.g. mathematical modelling for small patient series. We are looking for an individual who sees this as a mathematical challenge, but is on the other side also interested in qualitative research to inform the early stages of HTA. The combination of qualitative and quantitative research in HTA in close collaboration between research and clinical practice supports new innovations to be implemented most optimally and as fast as possible into the clinic.
Besides the ongoing projects such as early HTAs in liquid biopsies, next generation sequencing, predictive tests, medical devices and other translational research in oncology, we are facilitating e.g. head-room calculations for grant proposals and the accompanying textual proposals for newly to develop, and stimulating HTAs according our research line in (early) Health economics in precision oncology in the NKI-AVL. Supervisors for the projects are Dr. Valesca Retèl and Prof. Dr. Wim van Harten, in collaboration with the various project specific PI’s such as fundamental researchers and physicians from the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital. Inspiring international atmosphere Approximately 550 people work in the NKI research laboratory and many of the clinicians are involved in research. Work discussions, lectures and seminars are inspiring and a large number of non-Dutch post-docs, students and staff members contribute to the stimulating and international atmosphere of the Institute. The group of Wim van Harten is positioned within the department of Psychosocial and Epidemiological research (PSOE) and currently involves 1 senior scientist, 1 senior postdoc, 1 postdoc, 9 PhDs, a research assistant and a number of master students involved in health technology assessment/health economics and mathematic modelling.
We are searching for a postdoctoral investigator with the following expertise and experience:
- You have a PhD degree in Health Economics OR epidemiology OR econometrics OR mathematics OR industrial engineering OR biomedical sciences with the motivation to work in healthcare;
- You are interested in applied decision modelling in the field of health care (our connection with the clinic is very strong);
- Experience with performing statistical analyses/modelling (Excel, SPSS, Stata or R);
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal (English);
- You are passionate about Health care policy.
Your career opportunities and terms of employment
You will work in a dynamic international scientific environment and collaborate with colleagues at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, the NKI and at other institutes. Postdocs at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek can participate in our new postdoc career development program that focuses on personal development.
Postdoc: Your temporary employment will be for a period of 2,5 (with possibility for extension to 3) years The gross salary per month will range between € 3.490,- to € 3.917,- (salary scale 55) depending on previous experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labor Agreement for Hospitals).
Please submit an electronic copy of your CV, the names and contact information of referents, and a cover letter describing education, research experience and research interests.
For further information visit our home page (www.nki.nl) or contact Prof. Wim H. van Harten (firstname.lastname@example.org) or dr. V.P. Retèl (email@example.com). Applications can be submitted via the portal (http://www.nki.nl/working-at-the-nki/) or send directly to Valesca Retèl.
