Postdoc treatment plan adaptation MR-Linac

Project information:
Radiotherapy is a treatment modality of cancer where patients receive a high radiation dose localized to the tumour, while minimizing the exposure of surrounding normal tissue. Patients are typically treated daily over a period of a few weeks. To account for daily patient/tumour misalignment and anatomical changes, the patient is frequently reimaged and treatment adaptations are applied. To improve the accuracy of image-guidance adaptive radiotherapy, at the Netherlands Cancer Institute we are we participating in an international consortium of academic centres and industry to bring an integrated MRI-linear accelerator to the clinic. For this project, a positions is available for the development and clinical implementation of MRI based adaptive strategies.
You will collaborate closely in an interdisciplinary team of radiation oncologists, physicists, and RTTs.
Postdoc Treatment Plan Adaptation MR-Linac
You will perform the commissioning of the image registration and treatment plan adaptation software and evaluate methods to rapidly evaluate image registration, auto segmentation and plan adaptation quality. You will develop and validate thresholds for plan adaptation, quantify margins for residual uncertainties and developing and implementing motion management strategies for targets moving with respiration. You will participate in the training of physicians and radiotherapy technologists.

Your profile

We seek a highly motivated physicist. 

  • PhD in (applied) physics or biomedical engineering
  • An interest in in the development of clinical applications
  • Affinity with image processing and software development
  • Good analytical ability to translate complex solutions to a clear clinical application, which can be safely and effectively used by technicians and physicians
  • A background in radiotherapy is recommended
  • Fluent in English
  • Knowledge of Dutch language is preferable but not essential

Your career opportunities and terms of employment

You will be employed for a period of three years. The gross salary per month is € 3.097,- to € 4.303,- according to the FWG-function group 55, and depends on previous experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Hospitals.
