Postdoc – Bioinformatics Translational Oncology

Your function within the department

Your function will be dual: Member of an enthusiastic team of committed clinicians and researchers focusing on developing diagnostic tests for breast and ovarian cancer precision medicine (Linn group). Furthermore, you will be part of a team of statisticians and computational scientists focusing on the development of novel algorithms to decipher high throughput molecular data sets from cancer patients (Wessels/de Menezes groups). The groups are embedded in an institute with excellent supporting facilities where stimulating scientists from multiple disciplines collaborate to combat cancer.

Your tasks will be:

  •  running analyses of high throughput molecular data obtained from patient tumor material collected in the context of cohorts and clinical trials, with the ultimate goal of developing diagnostic tests;
  • development of novel computational algorithms to deduce prognostic and predictive information from large clinical datasets. Additionally, setting up own projects and pursuing interesting findings will be appreciated.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoc who has a great interest in translational cancer research. The candidate should have advanced skills in high-throughput data analysis, and should have knowledge of basic (cancer) biology and/ or statistics. The ideal candidate can define the most appropriate statistical bioinformatics method and is proficient in R and Python. All data analyses will be intensively discussed with co-investigators including clinicians. The ability to explain applied methods is crucial. Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

The Postdoc will be employed by the research groups of Prof. Sabine Linn, Dr. Renee de Menezes, and Prof. Lodewyk Wessels. We offer a 1-year contract, with the intention to extend to a total of 4 years. The gross salary per month will range from € 3.375,- to € 4.111,- according to FWG-function group 55 and depends on previous experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
