Koen studied Biology at VU University in Amsterdam (1993) and went on to earn a PhD in Medicine from the University of Amsterdam (1999). During his post-doctoral scientific career he received two EMBO fellowships which allowed him to perform research at the University of Heidelberg (1998-1999) and at Oxford University (2000-2001).
In 2001 he started as a technology transfer manager with MRC Technology, the commercialisation company of the Medical Research Council in London, UK. In 2003 he moved back to the Netherlands where he founded the Technology Transfer Office at VUmc and subsequently at VU University.
On 1 May 2009 he moved over to NKI-AVL to head up the institute’s tech transfer office. His responsibilities include contract negotiations, patenting, licensing and spin-out formation. Koen is an active member of LES and ASTP.

Monique has obtained her degree in Biology at the University in Leiden. As a molecular biologist, she has obtained extensive knowledge and expertise in basal, translational and clinical cancer research. She performed her PhD in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. A.J. van der Eb at the division of Molecular Carcinogenesis at the Sylvius Laboratories in Leiden. In the position of postdoc, Monique worked under Prof. Dr. E. Boven and Prof. Dr. H.M. Pinedo at the Medical Oncology department of the VU University medical center in Amsterdam. She started her function as valorisation officer at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in August 2007.

Hylke has obtained her degree in Law at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and she performed her masters on IP and Law. In 1998 she started working at IBM and during the last seven years at IBM she worked as a negotiator at IBM legal, where she has obtained extensive knowledge and expertise in contracting and negotiating on a national and international level. She started her function as legal counsel at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in August 2009.

Rik studied Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leiden, where he earned his MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences Management. After working at the licensing department at LURIS (the technology transfer office of Leiden University), Rik went on to start up a small company in 2009. After its successful launch, Rik has started in his function as Business Development Manager at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in June 2010.
