Genetic profiling breast cancer

07-03-2008

Breast cancer can be treated with chemotherapy prior to surgery to reduce the tumor size and to monitor response. Thus far, there is no possibility to predict a patient’s response to such a treatment.

Juliane Hannemann, a scientist at the NKI-AVL department of Experimental Therapy, has investigated the gene expression profiles of untreated biopsies of breast tumors and correlated these profiles with response to therapy. Furthermore, the potential predictive power other molecular markers have been investigated.

On Thursday July 3th Juliane Hannemann will defend her thesis “Gene expression profiling in breast cancer. A link between biology and clinical decision making”. The thesis defense will be held in the Agnietenkapel in Amsterdam at 14.00 h.
