Appointment Professor Reuven Agami

04-08-2009

Professor Reuven Agami (1965), head of the Gene Regulation Division at the Netherlands Cancer Institute – Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital (NKI-AVL), has been appointed as professor of MicroRNA and pathogenesis at the departments of Genetics and Pathology at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam on behalf of the Association of the Netherlands Cancer Institute, effective April 7, 2009.

Research area
Reuven Agami applies high-throughput RNA interference (RNAi) libraries, as well as gene-expression libraries for microRNAs (endogenous small RNA genes) and RNA-binding proteins to identify and characterize genes involved in the molecular pathology of cancer and DNA-damage signalling pathways in humans.

Biographic sketch
Reuven Agami performed his PhD research at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. As a post-doc in the group of Prof. Rene Bernards at the NKI-AVL he initiated his own line of research to identify rapid molecular events that initiate a p53 independent DNA damage response. In September 2001 he started his own group at the Netherlands Cancer Institute.
