02-29-2008

The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam was ranked 9th as best international academic and non-commercial organizations for employment outside the U.S. in the 6th annual survey 'Best Places to Work for Postdocs' published by the scientific magazine The Scientist in it’s March issue.

A valuable training experience, career development and network opportunities, access to research equipment and the adequate funding provided by the NKI were the key ingredients of a great workplace, according to the 3,086 postdocs in the life sciences who completed the survey about programs in 82 U.S. institutions and 17 non-U.S. institutions.

Survey respondents used an "agree/strongly disagree scale" to rank statements about their workplace and experience in quality of training, mentoring, communication, facilities and family and personal life. Financial matters, including funding, compensation, equity and health insurance, were also addressed.
