The Netherlands Cancer Institute-Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital (NKI-AVL) is an integrated cancer institute, combining a research laboratory and hospital under one roof in a single independent organization. The laboratory covers all major areas of basic molecular biology and clinical research, with special emphasis on mouse tumor models, mouse (reverse) genetics, cancer cell biology and translational research requiring close collaboration between clinical and basic scientists. The Institute has an international staff working in a dynamic and informal setting, where own initiative and independence are encouraged.
The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) of the NKI-AVL manages the identification, protection and exploitation of Intellectual Property (IP) created by the Institute’s scientists and supports (commercial) research collaborations. This helps to advance the mission of the NKI-AVL which is to improve cancer diagnostics and treatment by transferring the results of fundamental research to parties that can bring these to the benefit of patients. The TTO informs, advises and supports researchers and the Board of Directors to protect and exploit the outcomes of the research.
The TTO is responsible for:

- Supporting negotiations on research contracts
- Communication and transfer of research findings to external partners
- Support and advice for research grant proposals
